| Fabio Capello Given A Lesson In The Pre-Game Speech. Posted: 13 Mar 2009 12:29 PM PDT Daryl already posted this on England WCB this morning, but it’s of such calibre it undoubtedly deserves a ‘global’ audience. Brief explanation:
i. Had this been rehearsed going in? Did the English players know what was going to be said or was this more of an impromptu ‘roast’? (Not that kind, Frank & Rio.) Because if so, kudos to most of the England players for being able to keep a straight face. Except for you, Crouchie. You’ve been told you’re rubbish too many times not to play it off. ii. While we’re marginally on-topic…what ever happened to Kieron Dyer? iii. Is Lampard about to cry when Steven Gerrard’s name is brought up? iv. How does JT’s wife let him leave the house with hair like that? v. Was there a 20-cap requirement to be roasted? How did Carrick get off scot-free? Did Fergie phone in a request to get him out of international duties? (You’ll notice Rooney is absent. Mmm hmm.) And finally…how the hell did six misses result in just a head in Hangman? Are there English rules to which I haven’t been made privy? Is there a professional footballers’ handicap? I need answers. But really, the whole thing is brilliant and Fabio Capello would do well to learn a thing or two - particularly how to speak in an Essex accent. |

| Uzbekistan Takes Its Training Seriously. Posted: 10 Mar 2009 02:40 PM PDT Uzbekistan has been struggling in World Cup qualifying, languishing at the bottom of Group 1 in Asian qualifying. They take on group leaders Australia in Sydney during the next qualifiers round, so they’ve understandably had to incorporate some extreme training methods in order to take the result against the Socceroos, as you can see. Thanks to Azamat, who sent us the tip along with this email:
With this at the footer: Disclaimings: This email is for marketing purposes but its contents and anyone from Uzbekistan should be taken very seriously. Hear that, Australia? This game should be magic. |

| Nike’s Advertising Department Fails At Subtlety Posted: 09 Mar 2009 04:10 PM PDT I think we’re getting closer and closer to the day when Nike ceases making actual athletic equipment to focus solely on making crappy virals and advertisements which have us yearning for the days of Paolo Maldini, Roberto Carlos and that ugly devil dude from ‘Au Revoir’. This is their latest submission, in which they fail miserably at hiding their true intentions. In the video you’ll notice the highlights from Brazil & Italy’s friendly in London last month which ended up 2-0 and likely saved Dunga’s job - thus meaningless for one team, not so much for the other. But what conclusion can one take from this game and ad? Nike > Puma, obviously. I miss the old days when - at least in the advertising realm - brands proved they were better simply by being better.
