| World Cup 2010 Tickets on Sale Tomorrow Morning Posted: 19 Feb 2009 02:03 PM PST You read that right. Tickets for the big show officially go on sale at 11am GMT tomorrow morning (Friday, Feb 20th, 2009). So I guess that means the tickets I bought off that one-eyed-fella in the pub last week are no good. I should have known official FIFA tickets weren’t printed on beermats. Curses. Reuters has all the facts, which we’ve used to answer a few questions:
How many WC2010 tickets are there altogether? Just over 3 million How many will go to sponsorship/hospitality/tv rights holders: 996,000 So a third of WC 2010 tickets are corporate giveaways? Yes Are you surprised? No How many are actually available to the public then? About 1.5 million So only about half? Yes Damn. Exactly How much do tickets cost? Anything from $20 to $900 Aren’t there some free tickets for South Africans? Yes. 120,000 free tickets for people from poor areas. Isn’t that quite generous? Yes. But also no. It’s about 10% the amount of free tickets being given to sponsors. |

| Posted: 17 Feb 2009 01:00 PM PST The arch for Durban’s WC 2010 stadium (Moses Mabhida Stadium) was such an achievement they threw a massive party just for its completion - the stadium itself still has some way to go. The genius aspect? A tram will hitch up to the underside of the structure and rise to the top of the curve for a 360 degree view of Durban. No idea if they’ll allow people to watch the games from that perch, but I could think of worse ideas should funding come up a bit short. The stadium looks like it’ll be one of the world’s premier stadiums - heads and shoulders above any in Africa, surely - or at least the designs after the jump would indicate such. |
