Africa Cup of Nations 2010 Quarterfinals: Get Ready for the Knockouts, Pick Your Winners

ali_knockoutTo be perfectly honest, I haven’t enjoyed the Africa Cup of Nations as much as I expected to so far. The Togo bus shooting was a bad start for all kinds of reasons, and then – Group D aside – the group stages failed to produce much of a climax. But that’s over now, and we’re ready for some proper knockout football in the quarterfinals.

Without a doubt, the quarterfinal to watch is Cameroon vs Egypt, a replay of the 2008 final. But the other three games should provide plenty of excitement too. Who do you see going through?

Quarterfinals
QF1 – Sunday, Jan 24th, Angola vs Ghana, 5pm
QF2 – Sunday, Jan 24th, Cote d’Ivoire vs Algeria, 8:30pm
QF3 – Monday, Jan 25th, Egypt vs Cameroon, 5pm
QF4 – Monday, Jan 25th, Zambia vs Nigeria, 8:30pm

Pick your winners: I’m picking Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire and Egypt to go through, plus a shock win for Zambia. Who do you see winning these games?

If you’re keen on bracketology, then I recommend a visit to Malawi World Cup Blog, where you can see what Angola 2010 looks like in bracket form.

Time translations:
5pm Angola = 5pm CET, 4pm UK, 11am US Eastern, 8am US Pacific.
8:30pm Angola = 8:30pm CET, 7:30pm UK, 2:30pm US eastern, 11:30am Pacific.

If you’re planning on watching the quarterfinals online in the USA or Canada then allow me to recommend purchasing the knockout round package from MyAfricanFootball.com. It’s a lot more legal and a lot more reliable that the streams you’ll find elsewhere, plus WorldCupBlog gets a cut of what you spend(!) Click the image for details. It costs $21.60 for access to all remaining games (plus you get on-demand access to replays and highlights and such). Click the banner to find out more:
